PEDRO CABRITA REIS - VENICE - ITALY
“a remote whisper” flows through the rooms, embracing the walls, doorways and floors with raw square aluminium bars, fluorescent lights and free hanging black electrical cords. It is a semi-preca-rious construction which integrates fragments of earlier works and archival material coming from his studio, as well as photos, drawings and paintings next to flotsam and jetsam found in the city. Pedro Cabrita Reis has prepared this all-over intervention as his contribution to the Collateral Events of the 55th Venice Art Biennale which encompasses all rooms of Palazzo Falier’s “piano nobile”. It is the fifth project that he realizes in Venice, having been the official representative of Portugal twice and also as participant in the international exhibitions of the Biennale at two occasions.3 Since he tends not to establish particular distinctions between exhibiting and working spaces which is also the case of this newest project in Venice, it helps that he is almost a local. A significant number of his art works are being realized «in situ».
